It’s hard to say if any anime ever had a “big emotional impact.” In fact, I can’t really think of any films in general that had an emotional impact, or at least not one drastic enough to mention. However, the anime that comes the closest to making me actually reflect at all is probably Bleach and the moment in the beginning when Ichigo has to decide if he’s going to take on the role as a soul reaper.
It’s completely understandable why Ichigo would deny this responsibility at first. Basically, this role puts his entire family and friends at risk but by not becoming a soul reaper he’s actually doing the opposite. I’ve always been drawn to this specific storyline where the hero’s journey begins because they are the only one capable of saving the world (or as some would call it ‘the chosen one’). This anime (and manga) is a great example of what it means to risk everything in order to protect those you love.
What anime had an emotional impact on you?
